In the beginning . . . In 1982, hosts Charlie and Barbara Campbell renovated the original homestead bakehouse into this charming cottage, a honeymoon hideaway for their daughter. The historic entrance room, where the homesteaders baked their bread, dates back to the late 1800s and has been carefully preserved in remembrance of the property's original Hawaiian residents. The cottage addition has a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, and queen bed with Tempur-Pedic mattress. A later renovation included the addition of a luxury bath, with double sinks, double shower heads, and a cozy whirlpool tub, all opening to a sweet, completely enclosed private garden. Waimea's green rolling hills provide the perfect backdrop for the seasonal backyard stream, just steps away. The entrance room has a twin bed to accommodate a third person.

The Waimea cottage, built in 1992, has native wood flooring, a wood-burning fireplace, a kitchenette (small refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, and electric skillet), comfy dining and sitting areas around the fireplace, and a queen bed in a cozy alcove. The beautiful full-tiled bath has a tub and shower, with double sinks. French doors open to a private brick patio with teak rockers.

The Garden Studio was added in 2001 and continues to win praise among newlyweds as a perfect honeymoon hideaway. Tucked in against the main residence, this comfortable, cozy, private nest has its own entrance through an enclosed courtyard lush with ferns. In addition to native-wood floors, a small kitchenette (small refrigerator, coffeemaker, microwave, sink, toaster), and all the amenities enjoyed at other Waimea Gardens accommodations, the studio has a king-size bed. The luxurious rain-head shower opens to a small private outside deck. Sleeps two only.

The newly completed Ohana Suite is perfect for a quiet retreat for two or for a family of three or four. The spacious streamside cottage, with native-wood floors, has a fully equipped kitchen/dining area, queen-size bed, day bed, and single sofa bed. A spacious closet and dressing room lead to a full bath with tub/shower as well as an outdoor shower in a lovely enclosed garden. French doors open to a private patio with unobstructed views of the Kohala mountains and the seasonal stream.
